Safe Motherhood

Adequate childcare begins with mother. A healthy, well nourished, happy mother is more likely to give birth to and nurture a healthy, well- fed, happy baby.

Factors which affect safe motherhood include the age, health, nutritional, educational and marital status of the mother. Evidently, a sizeable number of these factors are not entirely controlled by the mother herself. For instance, although the national plans and health target are to provide adequate and effective health care for all by the year 2000, the population that has assess to health services in Nigeria is still 59% with great regional variations.
