Toilet Training and Bedwetting

62% of the respondents begin toilet training before the child is two years old. By the age of three, most children (87%) have begun toilet training. The most common method of toilet training reported by parents is to teach the child to remove his pants (54%). 32% of parents is the sample said they woke up the child regularly at night.
Bedwetting is still a problem for 60% of the children in the sample. The parents of these children train them mostly by reminding them to use toilet before going to bed (50%). Other parents (23%) do not give the child plenty of fluid drink before bed-time. Only 17% of caregivers/parents train their young children by giving the ‘’potty’’ to use at regular intervals. The findings show that 72% of the children in total sample still soil themselves.
The findings that about two-thirds of the children in the sample do not yet have bladder control may be due to their young age,  that is about two-thirds of the children (63%) were under two years old while about three quarters (73%) were three years old or younger. Findings form previous surveys (Akinwale &Ojomo 1993) indicate that most mothers do not expect completion of toilet training until the child is about three years old.
